Finally, the time has come. Expect people roaming around the roadsides, our durbar squares and the temples targeting around with their Smartphone. Well, the answer to this seemingly mysterious and nerdy situation is the most anticipated Augmented Reality (AR) game, Pokemon Go released this week. After the massive AR manufacturer Niantic started rolling out the game since the first week of July, the game is receiving unbelievably awesome response worldwide.
With the technology boosting around with Virtual Reality, the concept of Augmented Reality in gaming is starting to Foster. In 2013, Google started its first Augmented Reality project naming it Niantic labs. Towards the end of 2013, Google launched its first AR game for mobile phones, Ingress. Ingress soon became a game full of mystery and awesomeness attracting people worldwide. They even released their own comic for the game, The Niantic Project. This game brought a new era in the real world gameplay. There were communities worldwide, people were organizing events and making new friends. The response was overwhelmingly positive. This game gained its space in Nepal too, but could not reach the expected height as it did in other countries.
After the massive success of Ingress, Niantic went off from Google and became an independent company, starting its new project, Pokémon GO. Pokémon GO gained its hype long before the release due to the awesome user interface shown in the trailers. Though the game has not been released officially in Nepal, the ‘extremely excited’ group of us (including me)have already started playing it downloading the apk file from the third party source.

Talking about what makes this game so different is, we have to move around in real life in order to play. Oh Yes! You have to move actually taking your phone in your hand, turning the GPS on to make your character move inside the game (Of course this will cost you some of your data plan). The first and most easy thing you can do with the game is to catch the Pokémon. As you move around, you may find several sorts of Pokémon in the game. If you see the Pokémon, press it, and then throw the Pokeball at it to catch. The next thing you need to know is pokestops. Pokestops are generally the places like temples or some other places of some social significance. You need to go to the pokestops and then flip the banner you see there to collect the items including Pokeballs and eggs. Next thing in this game is, gyms. Gyms are the places you go to train your Pokémon and then gain control over them. You can battle with others at the gym for the control. But you need to reach level 5 in order to gain access to full functionality of gyms.
So, to sum up, you go to the places, catch various species of Pokémon. You go to Pokestops and collect the items that will somehow get used in the game. You go to the gyms, train your Pokémon, join the teams, and battle for the control. And all this will happen in the real world! Isn’t that awesome? So download the game, tie your shoelaces and get moving.
